SUNSET RIDGE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS LEARN TOGETHER AT THE DENVER MUSEUM
Students from Sunset Ridge PK-8 spent an exciting day immersed in learning at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, while at the same time their teachers were getting an education as well.

In a one-of-a-kind partnership students dressed up as dinosaurs, explored the mysteries of space in the planetarium and dissected real hearts in hands-on biology labs, while their teachers participated in math-themed professional development sessions held onsite. The training, designed to enhance math instruction techniques, emphasized innovative strategies to engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving.

This day of dual learning is part of a groundbreaking partnership between Westminster Public Schools and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Westminster is the only district in Colorado to have a district-wide collaboration with the museum, ensuring all its schools benefit from these exceptional resources.

Brad Gonzales, the on-site program coordinator for the museum spoke about the partnership. “The district found a lot of value in this partnership that we’re doing, both with the professional development for teachers, as well as the student experiences led by our educators," he said. "They built this program into their district budget.”

The day was a resounding success, showcasing the district’s commitment to fostering a love of learning and supporting its educators in delivering top-notch instruction. Students and teachers alike left the museum inspired and ready to apply their newfound knowledge.

If your child did not get to participate in the museum field trip this year, WPS would like to offer tickets for free admission for you and your family.  Please email communications@wps.org with the name of your favorite dinosaur or planet to receive your admission tickets.  (Limit of 4 tickets per family; while supplies last).
