STAFF SPOTLIGHT: LAURIE SANCHEZ
Office Assistant
Orchard Park Academy
Laurie Sanchez has served in Westminster Public Schools since 1997, where she shows her commitment to children and families every day. Her job as an Office Assistant at Orchard Park Academy is fun and gives her many great memories of all the children who she has met over the years. Eventually, those children have their children who now attend OPA. This multigenerational connection to the community means a lot to Laurie, but it also means a lot to the families of WPS.
Principal Josh White writes, “Orchard Park Academy is extremely fortunate to have Laurie Sanchez as an integral part of our school and community. Laurie always greets our families with a positive smile and consistently offers a helping hand to both staff and students. Her presence is a cornerstone of our building, and we depend on her in countless ways. We are so grateful for everything she does to keep our school running smoothly and to help make it a welcoming place for all.”
“Mrs. Sanchez is truly an incredible person,” adds A.P. Mindy Frates. “Her kindness shines through in the way she treats every family, teacher, and student as if they were part of her own.”
Longtime associate and friend, secretary Tami Pister, says that Laurie Sanchez is more than just a coworker. “She’s my work wife! Her humor, support, and friendship make every day brighter, and I couldn’t imagine the office at OPA without her.”
Laurie has met thousands of WPS students, families, staff, and educators over the years. Thanks for all you do, Laurie!
Years in WPS: It will be 28 years in January. I started first as a special education para and then building aide at Skyline Elementary. Now, Office Assistant at Orchard Park Academy. I have been so lucky to be in the same place with the same families all these years.
Favorite Food: I love trying new foods, but my go-to is steak.
Favorite Athlete/Sports/Team: Broncos, of course. I do love Patrick Mahomes even though I am the only one in my family who does.
What are your hobbies: Gardening, traveling, crafting
What I am listening to right now is rock, particularly indie rock.
Superpower I wish I had: I would heal the world.
If I could make the world a better place in one way: There would be no more war. Instead, I would make the presidents of countries fight each other on their own, MMA style.
What has Westminster Public Schools meant to you? It means family to me, both with our staff and all the people I have met.
Who inspires me in WPS (staff, parent, or student): Mindy Frates. She has come a long way from teacher to Dean to A.P. Every job she does is done with such a huge commitment. She gives 200% every day.
