MEXICAN-AMERICAN AUTHOR INSPIRES, ENTERTAINS STUDENTS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS
Students at Sherrelwood Elementary received a hands-on lesson in art, language, and the Mexican-American culture when award-winning author and illustrator Raúl the Third visited with students to talk about his work and life experiences. Known for his vibrant illustrations and captivating stories, Raúl shared his creative journey and conducted an interactive art session with students.
The students were excited and engaged as he recounted growing up in Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border and shared how those experiences shaped his artistic style, characters, and approach to storytelling.
The visit was organized by Library Media Specialist Stephanie Gutierrez-McKain who reached out to the non-profit group Books to Kids. The Books to Kids' Author Visit program brings notable authors and illustrators to Title I schools in the Denver metro area, purchasing at least 100 copies of the book which are signed by the author and given to the students to keep as their own.
